Now, I have tried for years to make a good (edible) homemade white gravy from scratch and failed almost every time. Very distressing since my DH, who hardly ever cooks anything that can't be grilled can make gravy like there's no tomorrow. So, when the kids told me this is what they wanted for dinner...and DH ain't home to cook it...I cringed :)
But I strugled through and came out with a very tasty meal that had my picky eater coming back for thirds.
Even though I am sure you are going to chuckle at my country bumpkin approach, I decided to share with you my SOS experience. I browned about a pound of breakfast sausage in my big skillet. Now I use a 50-50 sausage that we make from deer and wild hog but I am sure any sausage will do. Then for my gravy....are you ready for this? I used Bisquick and water (I was out of milk). I put water in my skillet and just started adding the powdered biscuit mix while I whisked like a crazy woman to make sure there were no lumps. Tossed in a dash of seasoned salt, whisked till it got as thick as I wanted and slapped it on a late with toast.
Not bad for a gal who can't make gravy to save her life :)
